Channel Islands see off Poland after six-try Jersey display

The Channel Islands beat Poland 38-27 in Jersey, scoring six tries in their second annual representative match. Anthony Armstrong was central to the result, scoring twice and creating another try for Scott van Breda.

Jack McFarlane gave the hosts an early advantage, before two Dan Tomanek penalties briefly moved Poland in front. Armstrong restored the Channel Islands’ lead, and Charlie Wilkinson added another score before half-time after Poland had been reduced to 14 men.

Poland stayed in the contest through tries from Patryk Reksulak and Eryk Swiech, while the Channel Islands also had a yellow card of their own when Huw Owen was sent to the sin-bin. Even so, the hosts added second-half tries through Armstrong, Van Breda and replacement Matt Creber to keep control of the match.

The combined side drew heavily on Jersey RFC, with nine starters from the club that won the Regional One South Central title and the rest from Guernsey. The fixture adds another layer of interest before Jersey and Guernsey are due to meet in league rugby for the first time since the 1994-95 season.
