Jürgen Klopp has been named head coach of the Germany men’s national team on a contract running to the end of the 2030 World Cup. He succeeds Julian Nagelsmann after Germany’s last-32 exit against Paraguay at the World Cup.
The appointment marks Klopp’s return to front-line management after leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season, when he stepped away citing fatigue. His club résumé includes major titles with Liverpool and two Bundesliga championships during his spell at Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp had been working as Red Bull’s head of global soccer since October 2024. According to the supplied source, his early release involved a €1m German FA donation to the Wings for Life foundation and an agreement for Germany to play three internationals in Leipzig by 2030.
His first match is scheduled to be a Nations League trip to the Netherlands on 24 September, with Greece and Serbia also in Group A2. The central question now is whether Klopp’s high-energy style can translate to international football, where training time is limited and expectations around Germany remain unusually intense.
