The LA Clippers and Toronto Raptors are discussing a potential trade for Kawhi Leonard, according to ESPN, but the move remains at the negotiation stage. Leonard has one season left on his current deal, worth $50.3 million for 2026-27.
A return to Toronto would carry major history: Leonard spent one season with the Raptors after arriving from San Antonio in 2018 and led the franchise to the 2019 NBA championship, earning Finals MVP honors. He then left in free agency for the Clippers, where he has remained a central figure when available.
The possible deal would also signal a shift in direction for the Clippers, who finished 42-40 and exited in the play-in tournament despite Leonard producing one of his strongest individual seasons. ESPN reported that Leonard averaged 27.9 points, played 65 regular-season games, finished seventh in MVP voting and made the All-NBA second team.
There are still unresolved layers around the situation. ESPN also noted an ongoing NBA investigation related to whether the Clippers circumvented salary-cap rules through an endorsement arrangement involving Aspiration; that inquiry has not been concluded. If a trade is completed, ESPN reported that Leonard would become eligible for a two-year extension with his new team.
