Mexico's top-flight women's competition has been rebranded as Liga Femenil BBVA and will shift from one 18-team regular-season table to two groups of nine. The new setup reduces the regular season from 17 matches to 14 per club.
Teams will be assigned to groups using Elo rankings and geography, with each side playing eight matches inside its group and six against opponents from the other group. The league will still run two tournaments per year, Apertura and Clausura, and both will continue to end with playoff rounds.
The postseason format changes with the group structure. The top four teams from each group will reach the quarterfinals, where cross-group seedings will set up No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3 matchups; semifinalists will then be re-ranked based on the overall table.
A key scheduling aim is to move away from midweek matchdays, with fixtures planned mainly from Friday through Sunday. Club América enter as current champions after beating Monterrey in the most recent Clausura final, and the revamped league calendar is set to begin the 2026 Apertura with Cruz Azul against Atlas on July 31.
