USWNT to host Spain in October friendlies before World Cup qualifying push

The United States will host Spain in two women’s football friendlies this October, with matches scheduled for 10 October in Washington DC and 13 October in Chester, Pennsylvania. The games bring together the 2024 Olympic champions and the reigning 2023 World Cup winners.

For the USWNT, the fixtures arrive before the Concacaf W Championship in late November, which also serves as the region’s qualifying route for the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. Spain, already qualified for that tournament, will offer a high-level measure of where the American squad stands.

Both teams bring recent reference points into the matchup. The US split two June friendlies in Brazil, while Spain advanced through World Cup qualifying with five wins, one defeat and a plus-18 goal difference.

The meetings also carry historical weight. They will be only the second and third US-based matches between the teams, following a 1-0 American win at the 2020 SheBelieves Cup, and they add to the USWNT’s long record in games involving the world’s top two ranked sides.
