Hideki Kamiya has not announced a new Resident Evil game, but his joke concept for a quieter Leon Kennedy adventure has quickly caught fans’ attention. The pitch imagines Leon retired from survival horror and spending his days on everyday rural tasks instead.
According to the source, Kamiya posted the idea on X while marking Resident Evil’s 30th anniversary and again expressing interest in a “non-scary” version of the series. The concept he described leans into life-sim territory, with activities such as fishing, gathering food, baking, gardening, helping neighbors, and hosting friends.
The fan response appears to be the story: rather than dismissing the idea as a gag, many replies reportedly said they would genuinely like to play it. Kamiya then directed a follow-up comment toward Capcom, suggesting the publisher consider a non-scary Resident Evil spin on the formula.
For editors, the key caveat is that this remains social-media humor and fan enthusiasm, not a confirmed development plan. Still, the reaction points to an interesting question for long-running horror franchises: could a playful side game deepen attachment to characters without weakening the series’ identity?
